Certifications and Licenses

  • The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is recognized nationally as the organization that maintains standards of ethical conduct and professionalism in the fields of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Any individual who wishes to provide or supervise clinical services and resides in the United States must obtain ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
  • In order to sell, fit, dispense, or service hearing aids in the State of Illinois, non-licensed audiologists must obtain a Hearing Aid Dispenser License from the Illinois Department of Public Health. This includes CF individuals.
  • The Illinois Department of Professional Regulation requires speech-language pathologists and audiologists to obtain a state license to practice in Illinois.
  • The Illinois State Board of Education issues the Type 73 School Services Personnel Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology. Individuals who wish to be employed in public schools in Illinois must complete the requirements for this certificate.
