Clinical Practica
All students must complete all clinical practica are necessary to meet the requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence.
- CSD 408.1 Basic Practicum: AUD Evaluations
- Complete one, 1-hour enrollment in this to obtain at least 10 hours conducting hearing screenings.
- CSD 408.2 Basic Practicum: Aural Rehabilitation
- Complete one, 1-hour enrollment in this to obtain at least 10 hours providing aural rehabilitation to deaf or hard of hearing clients
- Students must document minimal competency with signed English, or complete CSD 352: Signed English for Clinicians prior to enrolling in this clinic.
- CSD 408.4 Basic Practicum: SLP
- Complete one, 1-hour enrollment in this during your first semester. You will have clients for therapy but not for evaluations.
- CSD 408.5 Advanced Practicum: SLP
- Following completion of 408.4, you will enroll in this for 2 hours during every semester that you are on campus. This can include both on-campus and off-campus assignments. You must complete at least 2 full semesters (this does not include summer) of CSD 408.5 before leaving campus for internships.
- The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has part-time external sites that students are regularly engaged with as part of the CSD 408.5 clinics. These include:
- CSD 408.6 Internship: Educational
- Students who wish to obtain the Type 73 School Services Personnel Certificate will complete one full-time, 11-week internship in a school for 5 semester hours. Students who do not wish to be certified for public school practice will have the option of completing two enrollments in CSD 408.7.
- CSD 408.7 Internship: Health Care
- All students will complete one full-time, 11-week assignment for 5 semester hours. Placements are typically made in hospitals. There are no geographical restrictions on placement.
