Honors
Departmental Honors Scholar
Academically talented and highly motivated students are encouraged to pursue departmental honors. Students complete special academic work leading to a student's being designated as a Departmental Honors Scholar. This designation is indicated on student diplomas.
Honors work in communicative disorders and speech and hearing science is available to qualified students. Candidates must meet the following admission and program requirements:
Admission Requirements
The candidate must undergo the following:
- Be a declared major in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
- Have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.30 and a minimum grade point average in major courses of 3.50.
- Have completed 60 semester hours of college or university level coursework.
- Submit the written recommendations of two ISU faculty persons to the Departmental Honors Advisor.
- Apply for admission to the Department Honors Advisor, Heidi Verticchio
Program Requirements
In order to successfully complete the Departmental Honors Program, the candidate must:
- Be a member of the Honors Program.
- Complete all requirements for the major in either Speech Pathology or Audiology.
- Receive no grade lower than “B” in CSD courses, maintain a 3.50 GPA in CSD courses and a 3.30 GPA overall.
- Complete a minimum of 6 semester hours of in-course honors work in 300-level CSD courses.
- Complete an Honors Project (CSD 299) or Honors Thesis (IDS 395) for 3 semester hours under the direction of a CSD faculty member.
- Apply to the departmental Honors advisor and to the Illinois State Honors Office at the beginning of the final semester of the undergraduate program for Honors Degree designation.
Privileges
- The student will have the advantages of priority registration afforded to all Honors students.
- The graduate will receive Departmental Honors Scholar designation on the diploma and transcript.
