Communication Sciences and Disorders Scholarship Opportunities
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has some scholarships available.

Ann Beck Scholarship
- Agreement
- This agreement summarizes the mutual understanding of Dr. Ann Beck, Gary Beck (Donors) and the Illinois State University Foundation (Foundation) regarding irrevocable gifts in support of the Communication Sciences and Disorders department. This agreement will be made a part of the Foundation's records and is intended as a guide to those who will administer the fund in the future. All gifts and transferred funds will be administered in accordance with the Foundation's administrative guidelines and procedures.
- Purpose
- Scholarship: Provide financial assistance for students meeting the following criteria:
- Student must be enrolled in one of the following majors: Communications Sciences and Disorders
- Student must have a minimum GPA of: 3.0
- Miscellaneous: Applicants must submit an essay on self-compassion in clinical work as part of the application packet.
- Student must be at a grade level of: Junior, Senior, Graduate
- Scholarships will be awarded for the following term: one-time award
- Scholarship: Provide financial assistance for students meeting the following criteria:
- Fund Administator
- The responsibility for use of the fund distributions will be assigned to the fund fiscal agent, who may seek advice and assistance from other Illinois State University faculty and administrative staff in carrying out the fund administrator's responsibilities. Investment and distribution of the fund will adhere to the Foundation's policies and procedures.

Robert and Frieda Augustine Endowed Scholarship
- Agreement
- This agreement summarized the mutual understanding of Dr. Robert Augustine, Kathryn Augustine (Donors), and the Illinois State University Foundation (Foundation) regarding irrevocable gifts in support of the Communication Sciences and Disorders department. This agreement will be made a part of the Foundation’s records and is intended as a guide to those who will administer in accordance with the Foundation’s administrative guidelines and procedures.
- Candidate Qualifications/Requirements
- Each candidate for the Robert and Frieda Augustine Scholarship must:
- Be enrolled or admitted in good standing at Illinois State University
- Be at the grade level of: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate
- Be declared a major in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorder, following a course of study in speech pathology/communication disorders.
- Use the scholarship to defray educational expenses at ISU, including tuition and fees. Award is applied to expenses incurred the semester following selection of the recipient (awarded in the spring and paid in the fall).
- Each candidate for the Robert and Frieda Augustine Scholarship must:
- Scholarship Fund Administration
- At such time as the Robert and Frieda Augustine Scholarship is established, responsibilities for selection of scholarship recipients and distribution of scholarship awards will be assigned to the Chair, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Illinois State University. This person, as the Scholarship Fund Administrator, may seek advice and assistance from other ISU faculty and administrative staff in carrying out his or her responsibilities.
- Scholarship Awards
- The Robert and Frieda Augustine Scholarship shall be awarded annually. The number and amount of awards will depend on the annual net investment earnings produced by the endowment’s principal. A portion of these investment earnings will be used for scholarship awards, as outlined in the ISU foundation spending policies.

Mary K Keiser Scholarship
- Candidate Qualifications/Requirements
- Each candidate for the Mary K. Keiser Scholarship must:
- Be enrolled or admitted in good standing at Illinois State University
- Be an undergraduate with a minimum of 60 earned credit hours or a graduate student.
- Be declared a major in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorder, following a course of study in speech pathology/communication disorders.
- Demonstrate strong academic achievement, as evidenced by a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Use the scholarship to defray educational expenses at ISU, including tuition and fees. Award is applied to expenses incurred the semester following selection of the recipient (awarded in the spring and paid in the fall).
- Have demonstrated both academic excellence and financial need.
- Each candidate for the Mary K. Keiser Scholarship must:
- Scholarship Fund Administrator
- At such time as the Mary K. Keiser Scholarship is established, responsibilities for selection of scholarship recipients and distribution of scholarship awards will be assigned to the Chair, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Illinois State University. This person, as the Scholarship Fund Administrator, may seek advice and assistance from other ISU faculty and administrative staff in carrying out his or her responsibilities.

ISAC Scholarship
The Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver (SETTW) is a scholarship through the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. This waiver is for undergraduate and graduate students in speech language pathology.

Scholarshps offered through the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)
Several scholarships are offered each year through CAS. For more information on scholarships offered and qualifications, visit the CAS website.
Graduate Assistantships
- There is one, university-wide, online application graduate assistantships. Search and apply for assistantships at the Illinois State University Jobs Web site.
- Graduate assistantships through the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders are offered to students based on their application for admission to the graduate program. Once offered, students will be informed of specific application procedures.
- Assistantships cover tuition expenses for one year and provide a monthly stipend during the fall and spring terms. In exchange, students work in the department approximately 10 hours per week. Duties are assigned by the department chairperson.
Tuition Waivers
Eligibility and Selection Process for Waiver Recipients
- All graduate students who do not have a tuition waiver and who are in good academic and clinical standing are eligible to apply for a tuition waiver.
- To apply, please complete the Graduate Tuition Waiver form and return the completed application to Diane Leonard, FH 204.
- The deadlines for each term are as follows:
- Fall: August 20th
- Spring: January 20th
- Summer: May 20th
